Earlier this month, I met Sam for coffee and conversation.
Mommy: Thank you so much for meeting me here. I know you have a busy schedule.
Sam: I’m just thankful for talking to something that’s really good.
M: You know, that segues nicely into what I wanted to talk about. We’re coming up on Thanksgiving, as you know, and I’m so curious–what are you thankful for?
S: I’m thankful for some pumpkin pie and the yummy pies I’m gonna have for dessert, and cake for dessert.
And cars that drive on the road, and I’m thankful to ride the painted van with Winnie the Pooh on it and the yellow Bella car just like Miss Allison’s car that’s yellow…
I’m thankful for the trucks and jeeps on the road.
What else am I thankful for?
The train that’s moving somewhere else.
M: Are you thankful for Mommy and Daddy and Sister?
M: Anything else?
S: Um… the trucks and Violet and you, Mama. I’m drawing a plan, Mama. Is it a plan of a house? Is it really clear, Mama?
Of course, his drawing of a house plan was phenomenal and our conversation deteriorated from there, as we drew pictures together and taped them up all over the walls. Brief though it was, our conversation can only be described as delightful and I must say, I am thankful for it. I am thankful for Sam.
